Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is continuing efforts to restore learning activities in three disaster-affected provinces—Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra—by allocating Rp13.3 billion, or around US$800 thousand .

The ministry is currently collecting data on damaged schools, mapping needs to ensure children can keep learning, and providing psychosocial support services for affected communities.

“On behalf of the ministry, I express our deepest condolences to all affected communities. The ministry has allocated Rp13.3 billion for flood and landslide relief in the three provinces,” Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti said here on Tuesday.

He added that the ministry, through the zakat or alms collection unit under the National Alms Agency (UPZ Baznas), is also gathering donations from those wishing to assist disaster victims.

Regarding aid distribution, Mu’ti explained that his side has prepared school supplies and other support for students impacted by the disaster.

However, access to affected areas is still being restored. For the time being, the ministry is maintaining intensive coordination with local technical implementation units (UPT) to collect data on damaged schools, educational facilities, and the assistance required.

Furthermore, he called on all stakeholders to work together to support affected communities. According to him, the priority now is ensuring that disaster victims receive proper assistance.

“Once accurate data has been collected, we can then formulate steps to ensure learning can continue. This includes providing psychosocial support for children and prioritizing affected schools to receive Education Unit Revitalization assistance next year,” Mu’ti said.

Previously, the ministry's Secretary-General Suharti said the ministry has conducted a survey of needed supplies.

According to her, the ministry's emergency recovery assistance consisted of 126 units of Emergency Classroom Tents, 120 student learning kits, learning quality improvement assistance valued at Rp25 million per voucher, and psychosocial support for school communities in the affected areas.
