Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto stated that the government will cancel Smallholder Business Credit (KUR) debts for Aceh farmers affected by floods and landslides.

“As for KUR debts, since this is a natural disaster, we will cancel them,” Prabowo said during a press statement while inspecting the Teupin Mane bailey bridge in Bireuen, Aceh, on Sunday.

The President explained that the debt cancellation is due to the disaster being a force majeure event, so farmers need not worry about repaying their loans.

“Farmers should not worry about being unable to repay debts, because this is not negligence but a forced situation, a force majeure,” he said.

He added that all recovery efforts in the flood- and landslide-affected areas are ongoing, including bridge repairs, which are targeted to reopen within one to two weeks.

He also received reports on damaged dams and affected rice fields belonging to local farmers.

The government is committed to rehabilitating the farmland and ensuring food supplies remain stable by sending aid from other regions until local production recovers.

“Farmers do not need to worry if their fields are damaged. We will help repair them, that is our priority. Meanwhile, food will be sent from elsewhere as (food) reserves are still sufficient,” he said.

During his visit to flood-affected areas in Aceh Province, the President inspected the Teupin Mane bailey bridge, a vital route connecting Bireuen and Takengon districts in Central Aceh.

The temporary 30-meter bridge is a critical lifeline to restore land access disrupted by the floods and strong river currents.

Prabowo observed construction points along the riverbank and checked heavy equipment operations, including excavators and loaders, working nonstop to strengthen the bridge.

The President affirmed that the government has been mobilizing all resources to ensure logistics and community movement are restored promptly.
