Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Food Agency (Bapanas) revealed that the government is distributing three types of food assistance to residents affected by floods in Sumatra to support recovery and ensure basic needs are met.

Bapanas Head and Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman explained here on Friday that the first aid package, valued at Rp918 billion or around U$55.1 million, consists of rice and cooking oil and is based on the President's directive to accelerate recovery.

“The second type is non-regular, based on requests from provinces due to the disaster, with a value of Rp330 billion,” Sulaiman said.

He noted that the combined value of the first and second aid packages totals Rp1.249 trillion or around U$75 million for the three provinces.

“The last one was requested by the Governor of Aceh, an additional 10 thousand tons of rice. We have approved and sent it,” he added.

Sulaiman emphasized the government’s quick response by intensifying food aid programs and organizing donations.

“As of today, at least three types of assistance have been provided, both from the state budget and voluntary donations,” he said.

Following President Prabowo’s instructions, regular food aid programs must continue, and it is supplemented by disaster-specific aid per local government requests.

Regular aid, which started in October, includes 34,300 tons of rice and 6.86 million liters of cooking oil for 1,715,126 beneficiaries.

Non-regular aid comes from the Government Rice Reserve (CBP) to meet urgent needs. Aceh received 16,290 tons for 1.9 million people, North Sumatra 6,530 tons for 1.8 million people, and West Sumatra 795.7 tons for 237,000 people.

In addition, Bapanas and the Agriculture Ministry employees and partners donated Rp75 billion worth of goods, distributed in multiple shipments via 153 trucks.
