In a statement cited here on Friday, he highlighted that the vehicle involved was driven by a substitute driver when it struck Kalibaru 01 Public Elementary School, which has been a beneficiary of the MBG program since March 24, 2025.
“We have confirmed that the driver involved holds a valid license, though he may lack experience. Our agency is still investigating the cause of the incident,” Hindayana pointed out.
Preliminary police inspections indicate that the car was roadworthy, though the driver is believed to have been operating in an unfit condition due to fatigue.
Nevertheless, the BGN chief affirmed that his office will conduct a thorough evaluation of MBG distribution, with a particular focus on standards and requirements related to delivery vehicles, drivers, and driver substitution.
“Our technical guidelines clearly mandate regular inspections of delivery vehicles. The recent incident involving driver substitution has prompted the BGN and MBG kitchen leaders to tighten standards for substitute drivers,” he affirmed.
Hindayana also stressed that BGN has ordered the vehicle involved to be withdrawn from MBG operations until the investigation is concluded.
Furthermore, he reiterated the BGN's commitment to providing full support for those injured in the incident, comprising several pupils and one teacher. He noted that 11 pupils have been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for their injuries.
"Four individuals are receiving treatment at Cilincing Hospital, while seven others are at Kota Hospital, including a teacher. Two of the victims require intensive care," Hindayana said.
The BGN, he continued, will also coordinate with the school regarding the continuation of the MBG program and trauma healing measures for the affected pupils and teacher.
