Medan (ANTARA) - The North Sumatra Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration deported 255 foreign nationals in the region for violating immigration regulations between January and November 2025.

"The deportations are part of immigration's responsibility to maintain security and order through the supervision of foreigners," said Teodorus Simarmata, Head of the North Sumatra Immigration, in Medan on Friday.

Simarmata said that of the 255 foreign nationals, the majority were from Bangladesh, which is 80 people, Malaysia, with 38 people, and China, with 11 people.

According to him, the step reflects a commitment to continuously tightening supervision, strengthening cross-agency coordination, and ensuring that all foreign nationals in Indonesia comply with applicable immigration regulations.

He also added that 158 people were detained, one person was prosecuted, and 10 people were prevented from entering due to urgent circumstances.

He explained that his office regularly holds activities with the foreign national monitoring team (Timpora) in collaboration with the immigration officials and other stakeholders to strengthen the supervision of foreign nationals in the regions.

He explained that the Timpora forum can unite efforts and strengthen synergy in monitoring foreign nationals, as each agency has a strategic role, and solid collaboration will result in more effective supervision.
