Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Directorate General of Immigration has deported a 34-year-old Swedish national, identified as the initials of GR, who is suspected of committing serious violent crimes in his home country.

Acting Director General of Immigration Yuldi Yusman said in a statement received here on Tuesday that his side acted on an official request from Swedish police authorities.

“GR is suspected of involvement in serious violent crimes in Sweden over the past year and was tracked in Indonesia since August 2025, although he was not yet listed on Interpol’s red notice,” Yusman said.

GR first entered Indonesia on August 7, 2025, using a visitor visa. On November 5, 2025, Swedish authorities formally requested Indonesian assistance to repatriate him. In response, the Directorate of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement coordinated with the South Jakarta Immigration Office to track GR.

System checks revealed he had overstayed by more than 60 days, prompting immigration authorities to add him to the watch list to prevent him from leaving the country.

The operation succeeded on Tuesday (November 18) at 11 a.m. local time, when GR was detected and detained by immigration officers at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport as he attempted to travel.

He was deported on Wednesday (November 26) under tight supervision and handed over to Swedish police in Stockholm.

GR has also been blacklisted to prevent future entry into Indonesia. Yusman emphasized the case reflects strong international cooperation.

“There is no place for international criminals in Indonesia. We will ensure this through maximum synergy with domestic and foreign authorities within our jurisdiction,” he said.

Swedish National Police Commissioner Petra Lundh expressed gratitude for Indonesia’s swift action. GR is suspected of attempted murder, illegal weapons violations, and involving minors in criminal activities since 2015.
