“We will then proceed to the installation of furniture,” Head of the IKN Authority Basuki Hadimuljono said in North Penajam Paser District, East Kalimantan, on Wednesday.
He noted that the first phase of Nusantara’s development, carried out from 2022 to 2025 in North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara districts, has reached 97 percent completion. Besides the palace, this phase covers mosques, schools, and markets.
The former minister of public works and public housing added that the progress achieved in the initial phase indicates readiness to move on to subsequent stages of infrastructure development in Nusantara.
“With the first phase concluded, IKN is ready to step into a new development chapter that will be more complex and strategic,” Hadimuljono said.
He further stated that the IKN Authority remains committed to accelerating and completing the construction of basic infrastructure and priority buildings by the end of this year to ensure that development proceeds according to plan.
Indonesia’s plan to relocate its capital city was initiated during the administration of the seventh president, Joko Widodo, who argued that the move was necessary to promote more balanced national development beyond the long-standing Java-centric model.
President Prabowo Subianto has assured that his government would continue the construction of Nusantara, aiming to declare it as the capital for political affairs by 2028.
To support that target, the government is preparing to begin the second phase of development, which will focus on the construction of key infrastructure and facilities for judicial and legislative institutions and is scheduled to run through 2029.
