“We have received complete data on madrasahs and Islamic boarding schools that were swept away, severely damaged, or lightly damaged, including students affected by the disaster,” Umar said on Saturday.
He made the remarks on the sidelines of the handover of recovery assistance for disaster-affected students in Aceh, totaling Rp2.3 billion, or about US$137 thousand.
Umar said that in addition to funds allocated for disaster-affected regions, the ministry has prepared a special budget to rebuild education facilities that were damaged or destroyed by disasters.
“We will also reallocate the budget for rehabilitation programs in 2026. After the emergency response phase, we will proceed with rehabilitation and recovery programs carried out in a sustainable manner,” he said.
During the emergency response phase, the ministry has been involved since the early stages by distributing food assistance to affected communities.
In the second phase, Umar handed over Rp37.95 billion, or about US$2.2 million, in aid for disaster survivors in Aceh through cooperation between the ministry, the National Alms Agency, and other alms institutions.
He said his visit to Aceh was part of efforts to ensure that ongoing humanitarian programs continue and reach their intended beneficiaries.
“Since the onset of the disaster, the ministry has mobilized together with volunteers and zakat partners. This follows the president’s directive that all elements of the government must be present to assist survivors. We will continue to work to the fullest to help restore conditions,” Umar said.
Assistance from the Ministry of Religious Affairs is focused on restoring Religious Affairs Offices, madrasahs, Islamic boarding schools, and mosques across Aceh.
Beyond emergency assistance, the government has also prepared medium-and long-term recovery measures.
