Iqbal said the achievement reflected years of structured planning and sustained preparation by the national program.
“Preparations like this are not just about short-term training. They represent a long-term roadmap for the Indonesia national futsal team,” Iqbal told a press conference on Monday.
He said the team’s journey to the top podium was shaped by consistent hard work from players and coaches, supported by close coordination with Professional Futsal League clubs, the Indonesian Futsal Federation (FFI), the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Iqbal highlighted targeted training camps as a key factor, including the scheduling of trial matches against countries with comparable playing styles and strength to potential SEA Games opponents, such as Australia.
“These trial matches were important to sharpen our tactics and mental readiness, because we faced teams with similar characteristics to those we would meet in the tournament,” he said.
He added that an intensive two-week training camp in Bangkok, Thailand, ahead of the 2025 SEA Games played a crucial role in helping the squad adapt quickly to local conditions.
“It was not easy. We trained intensively in Indonesia and then arrived about two weeks earlier in Thailand to adjust to the parquet courts used at the SEA Games,” Iqbal said.
The gold medal marked a significant milestone for Indonesian futsal, ending Thailand’s dominance in the event. Thailand had won the futsal title five consecutive times at the biennial Southeast Asian multi-sport games.
Iqbal said the victory should serve as momentum to further strengthen Indonesia’s futsal program and ensure long-term competitiveness at the regional and international levels.
“This gold medal shows that with clear planning, strong collaboration and patience, Indonesian futsal can reach the highest level in Southeast Asia,” he said.
