"In 2026, we are targeting 1,100 fishing villages. Next year, there may be more," he remarked at the Grand Harvest and Food Self-Sufficiency Announcement event in Karawang, West Java, on Wednesday.
He stated that Indonesia must achieve food self-sufficiency, specifically in animal protein from both livestock and fish.
To achieve this, the government will establish thousands of fishing villages and develop hundreds of fish farming centers nationwide.
The president added that the government will also scale up the livestock sector across the country.
Prabowo considered that protein intake fulfillment is crucial for the nation's future.
Prabowo emphasized that adequate protein intake is crucial for the nation’s future, ensuring children grow strong, healthy, and intelligent.
"Our people and our children must eat plenty of protein to become the future of a great Indonesia," he noted.
Expressing confidence in the ambitious plan, he highlighted that his motivation grew after seeing income improvements for farmers and fishermen.
"I received a report from the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, that the income of our fishermen has also increased, and in the coming years it will increase even more," he remarked.
The KNMP program is a priority initiative designed to transform traditional aquaculture into modern, productive and competitive hubs.
This development includes production facilities, infrastructure, training centers, fish markets, and hubs for micro, small, and medium enterprises.
