“Post-disaster recovery is not merely about completing tasks, but about ensuring that all basic needs of the community are met swiftly,” the ministry’s Director General of Regional Administration Development, Safrizal Zakaria Ali, said on Wednesday.
Ali added that the government is working to ensure smooth food distribution, the availability of clean water for drinking and ritual cleansing, the provision of clothing assistance, and the acceleration of relocating evacuees from tents to temporary shelters.
“All recovery efforts must be carried out in parallel, ranging from roads and bridges to river normalization, embankments, electricity, and communication networks,” he said.
President Prabowo Subianto has established a National Post-Disaster Recovery Task Force, chaired by Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian.
All ministries and government agencies have agreed to strengthen coordination to ensure that the recovery process moves quickly and in an integrated manner, allowing affected communities to directly experience the government’s presence.
Several achievements have been reported. The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has cleaned 2,756 disaster-affected schools and resumed learning activities in 2,468 of them.
In addition, 18 learning tents have been set up in several locations, with 80 additional learning tents will be distributed, alongside the distribution of 15,500 school kit packages and special allowances for affected teachers. The assistance, totaling Rp15.7 billion or around U$953 thousand, has been transferred directly to recipients’ bank accounts.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has deployed around 3,300 health workers and reactivated health service facilities across the affected areas. However, three community health centers still need to be relocated.
The government has also accelerated the construction and repair of bridges, restored access to village and inter-regional connecting roads, and sped up the development of temporary shelters as well as permanent housing.
