According to him, the DPR will seek an explanation from the government regarding the decision. In principle, he also appreciated any international initiative aimed at ending the armed conflict and alleviating the suffering of civilians in Gaza.
"However, Indonesia's participation must be viewed with caution and critical consideration," he said in Jakarta on Friday.
He stresses that genuine peace must rest on justice, including respect for international law, human rights protection, and the Palestinian people's right to independence, warning that peace should not be seen merely as a ceasefire without addressing underlying causes.
According to him, Indonesia should not be part of any initiative that has the potential to perpetuate the status quo of injustice or be used as political legitimacy for the unilateral interests of certain countries or figures.
Indonesia's participation, he said, must be consistent with its support for a two-state solution and must not override the central role of the United Nations (UN) in resolving the Palestine-Israel conflict.
"Indonesia's role in the Board of Peace must be substantive, meaningful, and independent, not symbolic, and must not contradict Indonesia's official stance, which has long rejected all forms of colonialism," he said.
He affirmed that the DPR would actively exercise its supervisory role, including seeking official clarification from the government on the legal basis and scope of Indonesia’s participation, its position and mandate on the council, and the political and diplomatic implications for national interests.
"Indonesia is present in international forums to bring justice and humanity to the table, not to obscure principles or sacrifice the Indonesian nation's historical commitment to the Palestinian struggle," he said.
