Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting peace in Palestine through its participation in the Board of Peace (BoP).

Speaking in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland, on Friday, Sugiono said the BoP is an international body established to oversee post-conflict stabilization and rehabilitation efforts in Gaza.

“The signing of the Charter of the Board of Peace is part of an ongoing process that we have undertaken to resolve the conflict, achieve peace, and carry out post-conflict rehabilitation in Palestine, particularly in Gaza,” Sugiono said in a statement released by the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta.

While accompanying President Prabowo Subianto at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, the foreign minister said one of the president’s key agendas was the signing of the BoP Charter.

He described the move as the culmination of a long series of dialogues and meetings among a number of countries, particularly Islamic nations and Muslim-majority states, concerning the situation in Palestine.

According to Sugiono, the agreement to establish the BoP stemmed from a shared determination to involve the international community more concretely in achieving lasting peace in Gaza.

The discussions continued through subsequent meetings, culminating in a gathering in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, which marked the signing of the Board of Peace charter.

“The Board of Peace is an international body—now formally established—tasked with monitoring administration, stabilization, and rehabilitation efforts in Gaza in particular, and in Palestine more broadly,” he said.

Sugiono added that Indonesia viewed participation in the BoP as essential, given its long-standing and consistent support for international peace and stability, especially concerning Palestine.

Although the formation of the body progressed relatively quickly, he said President Prabowo decided Indonesia should join the BoP after considering a range of strategic factors.

“From the outset, Indonesia has been a country that cares deeply about peace and international stability, particularly concerning the situation in Palestine. As the Board of Peace is part of efforts to achieve that peace, we must be involved,” Sugiono said.

He noted that the decision was also made following intensive consultations with countries that are part of the Group of New York.

Sugiono said several countries agreed to join the BoP, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, Türkiye, Pakistan, Egypt, and Indonesia.

“Two days before the signing, all parties agreed to join the Board of Peace,” he said.

The foreign minister expressed confidence that the BoP represents a long-awaited concrete step in overseeing the Palestinian peace process.

He said he hoped the participation of these countries would ensure that all actions taken remain oriented toward Palestinian independence and the realization of a two-state solution.

“Ensuring that the efforts undertaken by the Board of Peace remain focused on Palestinian independence and the achievement of a two-state solution,” he said.

Concluding his remarks, Sugiono emphasized that the BoP is not intended to replace the role of the United Nations.

“This body is not meant to replace the UN. It is an international body born out of concern for creating peace and stability, particularly in Gaza. For that reason, Indonesia has decided to take part,” he said.
