He reflected on his presidential inauguration on October 20, 2024, during the centenary celebration of the major Islamic organization Nahdlatul Ulama in Malang, East Java, on Sunday, as broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta.
Prabowo affirmed that, as head of state, he is bound by the mandate of the 1945 Constitution to protect the people and the nation from all forms of threats, both in the traditional and non-traditional dimensions of security.
“I bear the responsibility of safeguarding Indonesians from physical threats, from poverty, from hunger, from inadequate healthcare, and from substandard educational services,” the president stressed.
He emphasized that the president’s duties extend beyond maintaining national security, highlighting the executive responsibility of ensuring nationwide welfare through fair and responsible management and distribution of national resources and wealth.
On that note, the president observed that Indonesia is blessed with vast riches and natural resources that have not yet been fully harnessed for the greater good.
He also pointed to the country’s persistent problems of corruption, fraud, and manipulation, which have caused significant losses in assets and wealth. He therefore reiterated the government’s commitment to good governance.
“My government and I will not hesitate to combat all forms of corruption, fraud, manipulation, violations, and plunder. I will not back down even a step for the sake of safeguarding the wealth of this nation,” he remarked.
He further called on all elements of society to align their vision and efforts toward alleviating poverty and striving for equitable development and prosperity nationwide.
The president delivered the speech before more than 1,000 people, including ministers, Islamic clerics, and ordinary citizens.
