BNPB’s Head of Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, confirmed here on Wednesday that the permanent housing is being built by the Ministry of Housing and Settlements as part of the post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction phase.
“Two of the four planned permanent housing sites have entered the construction phase and are currently underway, while the other two locations are still in the technical preparation and land development stages,” Abdul Muhari said.
He acknowledged that the construction process had been delayed several times due to site adjustments.
One location initially planned in Noboleto had to be relocated because of extremely steep land conditions.
The hilly and rocky terrain requires a complex land development process, including cut-and-fill works, which has taken additional time before construction could begin.
Nevertheless, he assured that all survivors who had previously remained in tents have now been moved to temporary housing, and no residents are currently staying in emergency tents.
The eruptions of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores occurred in November 2024 and March 2025.
The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) reported that during the March 2025 eruption, a major explosion sent an ash column up to 8,000 meters high.
As a result, a total of 500 families were displaced and must be relocated, as volcanic activities continued through October 2025.
BNPB is targeting the gradual completion of the permanent housing so that survivors of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption can soon move into safer and more adequate homes.
