Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government officially established the National Council for Primary and Secondary Education to support President Prabowo Subianto’s mission of strengthening human resource development.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti on Friday (March 13) inaugurated members of the council, describing it as the first of its kind in Indonesia.

He emphasized that it was formed in line with Law No. 20 of 2003 on the National Education System.

In a statement cited here on Saturday, he noted that the council reflects his ministry’s vision of ensuring quality education for all citizens, consistent with one of the president’s eight primary missions—collectively known as Asta Cita.

"We place this vision within an optimistic view that every child in Indonesia has the right to quality education," Mu’ti added.

Highlighting Asta Cita number 4, which emphasizes human resource quality, the minister stressed that his office is determined to strengthen primary and secondary education as the foundation of the national system.

To support the mission, he continued, the ministry is focusing on initiatives intended to enhance character education and improve competencies in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, enabling young talents to excel with relevant skills in the future.

He further explained that the newly inaugurated national council is expected to serve as a strategic partner, offering the ministry constructive input, criticism, and advice to improve the effectiveness of programs.

"We are hoping for constructive input that can guide us toward improvements," he said.

Mu’ti then called on members of the council to work in synergy with all units of the ministry through an open, collaborative partnership built on mutual respect.

"Our ministry will strive to remain receptive to input, taking notes from you so that we can serve the people better," he told the council, which will work through 2031.
