Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Baznas collected more than Rp4.3 billion (about US$253,000) in zakat al-fitr donations from 111 senior state officials at the presidential palace complex, marking the highest amount recorded in 11 palace zakat collection events.

Baznas chairman Sodik Mudjahid said in a statement on Monday that the collection was held at the State Palace on Friday (March 13).

The event facilitated mandatory alms payments from Prabowo Subianto, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, cabinet ministers and senior security officials.

“We would like to thank the president, vice president and all cabinet members for their support and zakat payments through Baznas, which have greatly boosted our morale,” Mudjahid said.

He noted that zakat al-fitr collections at the presidential palace have risen steadily in recent years. Baznas recorded Rp636,250,000 in donations in 2022, Rp753,500,000 in 2023 and Rp1,088,500,000 in 2024.

The figure then rose to Rp2,040,338,800 in 2025 before reaching Rp4,345,197,056 this year.

Mudjahid said the participation of top government leaders could help encourage wider public awareness about paying zakat through trusted institutions.

Zakat al-fitr is a mandatory charitable donation that Muslims who are able must pay before the Eid al-Fitr holiday marking the end of the Ramadan fasting month.

“The participation of state leaders may be even more effective than our regular campaigns in encouraging people to fulfill their obligation,” he added.

Mudjahid said the record collection had also encouraged the newly inaugurated Baznas board to improve the management of zakat funds through 2031.

He emphasized the agency’s commitment to strengthening transparency, accountability and professionalism in managing the donations.

“We see this trust as a mandate to manage zakat funds in a responsible manner so they can bring tangible benefits to people in need across Indonesia,” he said.

According to Mudjahid, the growing amount of zakat collected also reflects the government’s increasing commitment to using charitable funds to support social and economic development.

In addition to the president and vice president, the event was attended by several ministers and senior security officials, including Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, and Indonesian military commander General Agus Subiyanto.
