Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto received a call from Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to discuss the initial export agreement for 250,000 tons of Indonesian urea fertilizer to Australia as part of strengthening trade cooperation.

"In the call, PM Albanese expressed his appreciation for the President's approval for the initial export of 250,000 tons of urea fertilizer to Australia," Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

In addition to Australia, Indonesia plans to export urea fertilizer to other countries, including India, the Philippines, Thailand and Brazil—amid global supply chain disruptions caused by rising tensions in the Middle East.

The total commitment for urea fertilizer exports reaches approximately one million tons, part of an effort to expand the global market for national fertilizer products.

According to data from Agriculture Ministry, total national urea production is recorded at 7.8 million tons, while domestic demand is around 6.3 million tons.

With this production gap, the government believes exports can be carried out without disrupting domestic fertilizer availability.

"This step is expected to maintain domestic supply while strengthening Indonesia's contribution to the global market," Teddy noted.

This measure is also part of the government's strategy to increase the added value of the fertilizer industry sector and expand economic cooperation with various partner countries, he added.
