Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Army has underscored the importance of proper waste management in supporting national energy and food security by promoting environmentally friendly processing efforts nationwide.

Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak made the statement while meeting with a government official at army headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday to explore collaboration opportunities.

The meeting involved the Deputy for Coordination on Food Affordability and Safety Nani Hendiarti and was highlighted in a press release received on Wednesday.

Simanjuntak noted that environment oriented efforts are important to prevent unmanaged garbage buildup that could trigger environmental damage and disease.

Meanwhile Hendiarti appreciated the army for demonstrating determination to back waste handling initiatives through its various regional units.

She said the military could contribute by mobilizing personnel to assist the government in raising public awareness and supporting waste processing efforts at local levels.

Highlighting cross sector collaboration she noted that the two institutions can launch joint efforts to strengthen environmental education and promote community based waste management.

The partnership also aims to optimize processing sites across regions to tackle environmental challenges more effectively.

Hendiarti expressed hope that such synergy would help Indonesia address waste issues through more efficient national coordination.
