Deputy Chief of Bareskrim Inspector General Nunung Syaifuddin said his unit successfully uncover counterfeit cases during the period of 2025-2026 reached a total of 1,241 suspects form 252 police reports.
"Throughout 2025 until April 2026, the ratio of counterfeit cases continued to decline from four ppm (parts per million) in 2025 to one ppm in April 2026," Syaifuddin said during a press conference at the Indonesia's central bank headquarters here on Wednesday.

From the operations, he added the authorities secured evidence in the form of 137,005 counterfeit rupiah banknotes and 17,267 counterfeit US dollar banknotes.
According to him, the counterfeit currency is not only harms the public, but can also disrupt the national economic stability, thus requiring firm measures for its eradication.
"Fake money not only causes economic losses to the public, but can also disrupt economic stability and reduce public trust in the national currency," he remarked.

Moreover, he also reminded the public to be more vigilant when receiving cash and to immediately report to the police if they find or suspect counterfeit.
"Counterfeiting currency is a serious crime as regulated under Article 374 of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years and a fine of up to Rp5 billion," he emphasized.
A total of 466,535 counterfeit rupiah banknotes of various denominations were destroyed during the event.
