"When we talk about MSME, its data varies. Sometimes, the differences are quite extreme," Sugiarto said in a statement here on Friday.
However, he appreciates the launch of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Service Application System (SAPA UMKM) to strengthen business ecosystem through data integration and cross-sector collaboration.
He explained the MSME's data makes it difficult for local governments to formulate appropriate development measures, from licensing assistance to expanding market access for MSMEs.

In addition, Sugiarto also said the diverse characteristics of MSMEs require different approaches in the business development process.
"These MSMEs have different variations. Their different approaches have different rhythms," he said while attending SAPA UMKM launching at the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN/Bappenas) office in Jakarta on Thursday (May 21).
Therefore, SAPA UMKM is an important programme in providing more integrated database while strengthening synergy between stakeholders in the MSME development, he added.
Sugiarto also encouraged the strengthening of collaborative work patterns (co-creation) involving the government, private sector, universities, and communities in designing solutions for MSMEs.
"When there is a platform that allows them to sit together, building on the principle of co-creation; then this is also a step forward," he said.

However, he emphasized the success of SAPA UMKM programme depends heavily on the active involvement of local governments, particularly in updating and utilizing MSME's data continuously.
Regional leaders play a crucial role in continuously updating and upgrading MSME's data since they understand the conditions and the needs of businesses in their regions.
Then, Sugiarto ensured the Ministry of Home Affairs would support and oversee the implementation of SAPA UMKM, so that the programme could be optimally utilized by local governments.
"The Ministry of Home Affairs will oversee this. We will ensure that regional leaders promote this initiative so that MSME in the regions can benefit from it," he said.
