The three villages -- Panggung, Pasean, and Gunung Madda -- are seriously flooded following continuous heavy rain since Saturday (Jan 1) in northern Sampang District which caused Kalikemuning river to overflow.
"The flood came from the headwaters," a local resident, Paidi, said here Sunday.
Houses, educational buildings and rice fields in the three villages were inundated 20 to 40 cm high.
Parts of the road which connects Kota Sampang Sub-district and Omben sub-district were also flooded making it very difficult for vehicles to pass.
There are no signs that the floods will recede, and the flood waters had even risen and the overflow from Kalikemuning River is getting swifter. The region is often hit by floods.
The last hit the region in December 2010 for two days inundating around one thousand houses in Kota Sub-district.
Another hit Kota Sampang Sub-district in the same month inundating three villages.
Kota Sampang District was hit by floods 20 times in 2010.(*)
