"The government must review the plan," member of the House of Representatives Commission VII Ismayatun of the Indonesian Democratic Party - Struggle (PDIP) said at a discussion here on Saturday.
The review must cover all aspects to ensure that the planned limitation of subsidized fuel consumption would meet the principles of justice and would not burden the public, she said.
"The government also needs to make a study of the categories of subsidized fuel consumers," she said.
Law No. 10 of 2010 on the 2011 State Budget requires the government to control the use of subsidized fuels consisting of gasoline, diesel oil and kerosene in stages to ensure that the subsidy will only go to those entitled to it.
The House of Representatives (DPR) last year agreed on gradual limitation of subsidized fuel consumption in and around Jakarta amid growing concern that the move may add to the inflation rate.
The policy will take effect as of late March 2011 instead of late January 2011 as proposed by the government earlier. In the initial phase, the policy will affect private cars which have so far used subsidized gasoline in and around Jakarta.
