Zurich (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Indonesia must not see India and China as threats but instead as partners.

In a press conference at Hotel Radisson at Zurich International Airport before leaving for home after attending the World Economic Forum here on Saturday "we must not perceive India and China as threats. We may compete for certain things but we must be partners for our economic interest."

He said if Indonesia could increase its exports to India with its population of 1.2 billion the country`s industries would improve and in turn would certainly create more jobs.

"That is the real benefit we will enjoy. It is part of our ability to market more to India and China. It also applies in investment," he said.

During President Yudhoyono`s visit to India before going to Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum Indonesian and Indian businesses signed 18 memorandum of understanding worth US$15.12 billion.

The Indonesian and Indian governments also signed 11 cooperation agreements in various fields as the implementation of comprehensive strategic agreements made in 2005.

President Yudhoyono said the partnership should not be seen from investment and economic point of view but from the lessons and experience they could share through them.

He said to increase the cooperation between India and Indonesia a CEO Summit would be held that would be attended by business leaders from the two countries to identify business opportunities.(*)
