"He has directly conveyed it to the French businessmen and we will safeguard them, give them legal certainty and if they are serious they will get benefit from Indonesia," finance minister Agus Martowardojo said after accompanying the vice president in a meeting with French minister of economy, finance and industry Christine Lagarde and dozens of businessmen from that country here on Thursday.
Agus said the French finance minister came to Indonesia with a number of prominent businessmen to hold direct talks with Indonesian businessmen.
The visiting French businessmen are operating in aviation, telecommunication, shipping, trade and energy industries.
"France right now is the chair of G20 and Indonesia is a member. Indonesia meanwhile is right now the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Their arrival here is timely," he said.
Asked if any commitment had been made Agus did not answer directly saying only that the French businessmen wished to invest in Indonesia.
