Tokyo (ANTARA News/Kyodo-OANA) - A strong quake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 jolted Ibaraki Prefecture and its vicinity in the Kanto region and the Tohoku region Saturday evening.

The 6:56 p.m. quake registered upper 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the northern part of Ibaraki and lower 5 in the southern part of the prefecture, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The quake was also felt in Tokyo and other metropolitan area.

There was no damage on nuclear facilities in Ibaraki, the prefectural government said.

The focus of the quake was in the northern part of Ibaraki at a depth of 20 kilometers, the agency said.

No tsunami warning was issued following the quake.
