Bitung, North Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - A Singaporean warship, the RSS Resolution, was reported to have called at Bitung on Monday for a goodwill visit to North Sulawesi`a main port city.

Commanded by LTC Chng Kim Chuan and Major Chris Cheong, the RSS Resolution was carrying 98 naval cadets.

Upon their arrival at Bitung, they held a meeting with officials of the Bitung administration.

According to LTC Chng Kim Chuan, the visit was part of RSS Resolution`s mission to introduce North Sulawesi to the Singaporean naval cadets.

During their four-day visit in Bitung, the Singaporean Navy members would visit several places of interest in North Sulawesi including Manado, Tomohon and South Minahasa.

The fourth assistant to the regional secretary of Bitung city, Petrus Tuange, welcomed the visit and hoped it would deepen the relations between the two countries, especially with the Bitung city.

"We are proud that Bitung has become the destination of the official visit of a foreign country delegation such as Singapore," he said.

The meeting was concluded with an exchange of souvenirs as a symbol of appreciation for the closer relations between the two parties.

RSS Resolution is edurance landing ship with a capacity of carrying 160 crew equipped with 76m Oto Melara weapons, 4 x Mistral SAM and 5x0.5 inch MG.
