"We are still confirming it. That is what the Pakistani authorities have said."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The chief of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), Sutanto, said here on Thursday that the picture sent by the Pakistani authorities was identical with that of most wanted terrorist Umar Patek.
He said before attending a plenary cabinet meeting that a team of police and BIN officials sent to Pakistan was still working to investigate and confirm the truth of the report.
"We are still confirming it. That is what the Pakistani authorities have said. We still have yet to check its truth. Indeed the photograph that has been sent to us is identical with that of Umar Patek but we still have to check other factors," he said.
Sutanto admitted he had received information from the Pakistani authorities about the arrest of Umar Patek several days ago. Therefore a team of officials from the police and BIN had been sent there several days ago to confirm it.
He said according to information from Pakistan the man believed to be Umar Patek, a suspect of the 2002 Bali bombing, was arrested along with his wife who is an Indonesian national.
He fought while secutiry officers were trying to arrest him, so that one of the security officers fell victim.
Right now the man believed to be Umar Patek is hurt and still being treated, Sutanto said.
"A fight had occured while arrest was being made leaving a victim from the Pakistanai security personnel," he said.
Therefore, Sutanto said, the man (Umar Patek) had also violated the Pakistani law and so the Indonesian government could not as yet confirm if it could bring him to the country.
Foreing minister Marty Natalegawa meanwhile said until now the Indonesian embassy in Pakistan had not yet received an official report from the Pakistani authorities regarding the arrest of Umar Patek.
"I learned (about his arrest) from news reports yesterday. And since yesterday we have not yet received any official report about it," he said.
He said the Indonesian government had neither officially made a request for his repatriation if the results of identification later proved he was really Umar Patek.
"Certainly everything will be done in stages. Firstly, it is identification and then confirmation and later steps to be taken by law enforcement authorities," he said.
A member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Intelligence Commission, Paskalis Kossay, from Golkar Party meanwhile had urged the government to immediately cooperate with the Pakistani government for the deporation of Umar Patek.
"I think he is the country`s most wanted and dangerous terrorist and therefore he has to be immediately deported," he said to ANTARA here on Thursday.
He said he needs to be deported immediately so that he could be processed according to the country`s law here.
Kossay supported the government`s decision to send a specical team to Pakistan to confirm the report of Patek`s arrest.
The 2002 Bali bombing killed 202 people, including 88 Australian holiday makers.
