Member of the Nias Barat legislative assembly (DPRD) Sulaiman Daeli told ANTARA News in Medan Thursday that no building had been damaged during the quake.
He also said however that almost all the people in Nias Barat, especially those in Onolimbu capital of the regency rushed out of their homes following the quaike.
Earlier, a 5.9-magnitude quake struck a number of areas in Nias Island, North Sumatra, on Wednesday at 9.01 pm.
The Polonia Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency in Medan said the quake was located 1.55 degrees northern latitude33 and 97.5 degrees eastern latitude.
The quake had its epicenter 67 kilometers northwest of Mount Sitoli at a depth of 15 kilometers.
The quake has no potential to trigger a tsunami.(*)
