Jakarta (ANTARA News) - PT Bank Syariah Mandiri (BSM), a sharia unit of Bank Mandiri, Indonesia`s largest lender by assets, saw its net profit surge 43.8 percent to Rp418.52 billion in 2010 from a year earlier on rising operational income.

Income from the distribution of funds reached Rp3.45 trillion, a 38.55 percent rise compared to Rp2.49 trillion the year before, BSM President Director Yuslam Fauzi said in a public exposure here on Tuesday.

Total financing rose significantly by 49.21 percent to Rp23.97 trillion in 2010 from Rp16.06 trillion a year ago, he said.

He said the bank`s assets also recorded a significant growth of 47.40 percent to Rp32.48 trillion at the end of December 2010 compared with Rp22.04 trillion the year before.

The increase in assets was caused by the rising amount of third party funds which reached Rp29 trillion in 2010 from Rp19.34 trillion a year earlier, he said.

He attributed the rising amount of third party funds to the opening of 144 new outlets, bringing their numbers to 520 until April 2011.

He said the bank would always focus on micro small and medium businesses expected to receive 66.36 percent of its overall sharia-compliant loans.

Last year, BSM received at least 18 awards including the Best Islamic Bank award from the Karim Business Consulting, and those from Investor magazine and Tempo magazine.
