The formation of ASEAN film community would allow greater exchange of information and experience and thus, ASEAN films would have increasingly higher competitive edge, Ukus Kuswara, the ministry`s acting director general of culture, arts and films, said here on Thursday.
A number of ASEAN member countries had their own advantages in the film industry, he said adding Thailand had complete technical services, Singapore had adequate studios and Indonesia had many cultural sites.
According to him, films were very important to become one of the topics of discussion at the ASEAN Summit because they helped people understand something quickly and served as an effective interaction media.
"As the current chair of ASEAN, Indonesia has put an ASEAN film festival on the agenda of the ASEAN Summit this year," he said.
He said the ministry was making preparations for the festival. The festival would open in Jakarta and later be followed by roadshows in six provinces in Indonesia and several other cities in Southeast Asia.
"The peak event will be held in Bali, coinciding with ASEAN fair. There will be a film talkshow with world film figures," he said. (*)
