Lubuklinggau (ANTARA News) - Police are detaining seven people in connection with a package bomb explosion at a supermarket in Lubuklinggau, South Sumatra, last Saturday.

"Right now we are detaining seven people as witnesses. The anti terror squad of the South Sumatra provincial police brought the last witness, identified as BS alias U, on Monday afternoon. He works as a driver of travel agent minivan plying Lubuklinggau and Palembang," chief of the Lubuklinggau police resort Adj Snr Comr Takwil Icshan said on Monday evening.

The other six witnesses are identified by their initials as H, KA, DD, AN, DY and W. They are believed to know the sending of the package bomb, Icshan said.

Both H and KA are managers of travel agent in Palembang, DD is cashier of a restaurant in Sekayu town, AN is a driver of travel agent minivan, DY is a driver of Xenia minivan used to send the package bomb and W is the owner of the minivan.

He said BS alias U was arrested because he made contact with DD a day before the bomb explosion. The police will soon question BS alias U.

He said an Avanza car with license plate number BG 2336 HD and a Xenia BG 2745 G used to send the bomb were seized by the police as evidence.

The bomb package was carried by the Xenia BG 2745 G car from a restaurant in Sekayu town and then transferred to the Avanza BG 2336 HD which was driven to Lubuklinggau by a man identified by his initials as AN.

The bomb then exploded at 9.25 on Saturday morning and wounded Hindra Sumarjono, the owner of the supermarket where the bomb went off.

Hindra sustained severe burns on his stomach and had to undergo intensive treatment at Siti Aisyah Islamic Hospital in Lubuklinggau.

Icshan said the police were still studying the motive behind the package bomb but declined to comment on whether it had to do to with terrorist cells in the country.(*)
