Banjarmasin (ANTARA News) - The fares of flights from Banjarmasin to many destinations have been raised by up to 300 pct in the current long school holidays.

City Link ticket agent at Jalan Sutoyo S Banjarmasin Akmad said the fare of a flight from Banjarmasin to Jakarta had been raised from Rp250 thousand - Rp350 thousand to Rp 850 thousand.

"Even with the raise, many passengers are on the waiting list," he said.

The same goes for the Banjarmasin-Surabaya fares between Rp600 thousand - Rp800 thousand from the normal Rp350 thousand - Rp400 thousand.

The fares of other airline companies had also been increased including Garuada, Lion Air, Merpati, Batavia and Sriwijaya Air.

It has also been predicted that the fare increases may be maintained until July 20, 2011, the start of the new school year.

A similar situation was also faced by other ticket agents in meeting the rising need of air travel.

In the meantime, chairman of the South Kalimantan tourism forum presidium Jono Purwadi said the great interest of South Kalimantan people in spending their holidays in other areas is natural. (*)
