But in reality I just want to be a soldier
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Lt Gen Pramono Edhie Wibowo said he just wanted to be a soldier rather than a future president.

"I just want to be a soldier," Pramono said after receiving the post of army chief of staff from Gen George Toisutta here on Thursday.

With his calm and casual style, the best Military Academy graduate in 1980 said if he was selected as the number one person in this country, it should go through existing rules and regulations.

"But in reality I just want to be a soldier," said the former chief of the Army`s Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad).

Pramono, the younger brother of First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, said that after receiving the post of army chief of staff, he would focus himself on Army`s programs that had been set before.

At the Army`s Headquarters in a military ceremony headed by National Defense Forces (TNI) Chief Admiral Agus Suhartono on Thursday morning, outgoing Army Chief of Staff Gen George Toisutta transferred his duties to Pramono.

The ceremony was attended by several cabinet ministers, Chief of Police General Timur Pradopo, People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) chairman Taufik Kiemas, and former army leaders.

Also present at the ceremony were the sons of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.

Pramono said he would carry out well whatever policies related to human resources as well as weaponry equipment that have been set by his predecessor Gen George Toisutta

He added that even reliable human resources and soldiers would be meaningless without reliable and well qualified weapons.

"Even the sophisticated weapons would be nothing if they are not manned by qualified human resources," Pramono said.

He asserted that human resources development and provision of sophisticated weapon would be carried out to optimize the professionalism of the Army.
