TOKYO, July 11 (ANTARA/Kyodo JBN-AsiaNet) --
Polyplastics Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, has decided to expand its production capacity of polyoxymethylene <POM, brand name: DURACON (R)> at Polyplastics Asia Pacific Sdn. Bhd., Kuantan, Malaysia, from 90,000 metric tons/year to 123,000 metric tons/year. Construction work on the expansion will be completed in October 2013, and its operation will be started in early 2014 as the largest POM manufacturing plant in the world. As a result of this investment, the Polyplastics Group's POM production capacity will total about 290,000 metric tons/year, accounting for about a third of the world's total demand for POM. Thus, the Group will become one of top POM manufacturers in the world.
Polyplastics also decided to increase its compounding capacity with the aim to strengthen its flexible supply system, especially in the China market. This is implemented by two projects in Taiwan and Nantong, China. Firstly, the Dafa plant of Polyplastics Taiwan Co., Ltd., Kaohsiung, will increase its compounding capacity to 35,000 metric tons/year mainly for polybutylene terephthalate <PBT, brand name: DURANEX (R)>. Secondly, Polyplastics will establish its own brand-new compounding company in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. Its operation will be started with the capacity of 9,000 metric tons/year in September 2013, and it will be expanded from time to time, in line with the dynamic demand of the China market. As a result of these investments, the Group's compounding capacity will total about 141,000 metric tons/year.
