The suspect, 28-year-old Hotdin Sipayung, was believed to have killed his own mother, Rosmania, with a knife because , according to him. he was upset by her continuing to yell at him.
"The suspect has to be examined in a mental institution because he behaved abnormally during questioning," Senior Commissioner Maringan Simanjuntak said here Wednesday (Aug 3).
Maringan said, the suspect did not struggle when he was arrested but acted abnormally and that was why the police would send Hotdin to a mental institution.
The man was arrested by the Percut Tuan police with the help of local residents at 08.00 pm local time shortly after he went missing.
Asked by police why he had killed his mother, Hotdin simply said "She always yells at me, so I killed her."
It was earlier reported Hotdin killed Rosmiana because the woman had refused to give him money.
After being stabbed, Rosmiana fell to the ground in the presence of Hotdin`s younger sister, Risma, who was shocked.
