Meanwhile, domestic investment grew 39.73 percent to Rp11.43 trillion from Rp8.18 trillion, Head of the East Kalimantan Provincial Investment Licensing and Coordinating Board (BPPMD) Yadi Sabianoor said here on Friday.
In total, foreign and domestic investment in East Kalimantan in the January-June 2011 period reached Rp20.23 trillion, he said.
The investment created a total of 21,696 new jobs, he said.
He said the number of workers employed in domestic investment projects reached 6.390 and foreign investment projects 15,306. Compared to the same period last year the figure represented 2.6 percent increase, he added.
In the first semester of 2010, domestic investment projects created 21,134 new jobs and foreign investment projects 16,085 new jobs, he said.
He said that the domestic investment mostly went to five business sectors, namely chemical industry, food crop and plantation, electricity, gas and water and food industry and other service industry.
Bontan municipality was listed as the biggest investment destination, followed by East Kutai district, Berau district, West Kutai district, Kutai Kartanegara district and Nununkan district, he said.
East Kalimantan has set itself the target of attracting domestic and foreign investment worth Rp30 trillion for 2011. The investment in the first half of 2011 was made up of 67.50 percent of the target. (*)
