All plainclothes policemen would step up their activities with regard to seeking possible terrorists.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta police have stepped their intelligence function with regard to the arrival of terrorist suspect Umar Patek in the country.
"We are increasing the intensity of operations by plainclothes police," the Head of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Command`s Public Relations Bureau, Senior Commissioner Baharudin Djafar, said here on Thursday.
He said the police had intensified the function of their intelligence and intelligence agents to monitor the activities of suspected groups or networks.
He said all plainclothes policemen would step up their activities with regard to seeking possible terrorists.
Baharudin said security situation in the capital city Jakarta was conducive after the arrival of the most wanted terrorist suspect and therefore security at a number of vital objects remained as usual.
Umar Patek who was deported by the Pakistani government arrived in Jakarta at 7am on Thursday. He is now held at the Police Mobile Brigade detention facility at Kelapa Dua, Depok, West Java.
Umar Patek is believed to be the maker of bombs that exploded in Bali in 2002 that killed more than 200 people.
The Pakistani authorities arrested him in March 2011 for violating immigration laws.(*)
