Governor Nur Alam made the statement at a ceremony to mark the peak event of the 50th anniversary of the Indonesian Scout Movement here on Sunday.
"We have to find the best possible solution to the narcotics and illicit drug problem, negative effect of globalization, environmental damage, and fighting between different student groups," Governor Nur Alam said.
As a preventive measure, he said, the National Scout movement could serve as one of the solutions to one of the serious problems haunting today`s younger generation.
Meanwhile, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Governor Frans Lebu Raya said in Kupang on Sunday that the Scout movement should prioritize its activities to shape the character and manners of the younger generation.
In addition, Frans said the Scout movement should also act as a cohesive force of national unity and integrity besides its activities to shave the young people`s moral character.
"The Scout movement must be a cohesive force of national unity besides its activities to shape the character and manners of the younger generation," Frans said.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said in his address at a the Scout`s anniversary in Cibubur, West Java on Sunday evening said the National Scout Movement should continue to be innovative.
According to the president, the Scout should be innovative in developing effective and efficient activities to gain better results.
