Mamuju, W Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - A flash flood killed two people in Lariang village, Tikke Sub District, North Mamuju District, West Sulawesi Province, a local official said.

The flood was triggered by the overflowing of Lariang River, Akbar Ulman, the head of the West Sulawesi disaster mitigation office, said here on Tuesday.

The flood that hit Lariang village, around 200 km of Mamuju, occurred on Monday at 1 am local time.

"The victims were swept away by the flood waters, and their bodies were finally found by personnel of the disaster mitigation office," he said.

A number of local inhabitants whose houses were flooded, have been evacuated to higher grounds.

"Our personnel have to use boats to reach flooded residential area and evacuate residents trapped amid the flash flood," he said.
