"I have ordered government offices to report their employees` attendance for work on Monday. According to the latest report, employees` attendance at government agencies averaged over 80 percent. At a few agencies, attendance was even 100 percent," the minister said here on Tuesday.
In the meantime. employee attendance at Mangindaan`s ministry reached 98 percent. "The two percent actually reported for work but they arrived at the office late, they were not absent," he added.
Asked whether there was improvement compared with the attendance level in previous years, the minister said that there was improvement because employees already knew the sanctions they would receive if they were absent.
"Government Regulation 53 on Employees Discipline contains clear provisions," he said.
In the meantime, employee attendance on the first working day at the Home Affairs Ministry on Monday reached 90 percent.
Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi on Monday conducted an inspection of the ministry`s work units.
The number of civil servants at the ministry of home affairs totaled 4,907 and 4,459 of them attended the roll-call. A total of 411 civil servants or 8.37 percent were on leave or ill.
Thirty seven others or 0.76 percent were reported to be absent without explanations and thus sanctions will be taken against them based on existing regulations.
In connection with the post-fasting Lebaran festivities, the government had made the period of August 29 - September 2, 2011 as the time for so-called joint Idul Fitri holidays.
Minister E.E. Mangindaan has issued a circular on August 22, 2011 on the supervision of civil servants, military and police personnel`s discipline, particularly with regard to the implementation of the joint holidays.
The circular contained an appeal to government agencies to increase disciplines among the civil servants, military and police personnel in their respective agencies.
They are asked to obey the working hours before and after the joint holidays.
