Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - Former vice president Yusuf Kalla said Indonesia was rich in natural resources but until now it was not yet able to make significant progress.

"One of the main factors for a country to make progress is the availability of its natural resources, but our country is not yet able to show its progress (even if it is rich in natural resources," Kalla said in his scientific oration during the conferment of an honorary doctorate title at the Unsyiah campus here on Sunday.

He said that education of its human resources was also a deciding factor. "Singapore, Japan, China and South Korea are not rich in natural resources but they could make significant progress because they have good human resources," he said.

Therefore, Indonesia should from now begin it (improving its human resources), Kalla, who is also chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI)said.

Besides, the national leaders must also guarantee security stability. These all are the foundations for the nation to gain progress.

"If the human resources and national stability are already good, the government should carry out open supervision and management system," Kalla said. (*)
