Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA News) - An Australian boy who is being detained here for marijuana possession has admitted he once was a drug addict but had recently undergone a rehabilitation process, police said.

"The boy whose initials are LM (14 years old) said he was a drug user but eventually entered a rehab center in Australia," chief the Bali Police`s Anti-narcotic Unit Senior Commissioner Mulyadi said here on Tuesday.

Mulyadi said the police had conducted a urine test on the boy but the result was not yet known.

"LM`s parents have left for Australia to fetch their son`s medical record for the investigation in Indonesia," he said adding that the police had actually finished the investigation but were still waiting for the necessary documents such as medical record, lab result and recommendation from a psychiatrist.

Mulyadi said according to Law No 3/1997 on Court Trials for Chidlren, the police could detain a suspect for 20 days with the possibility of an extension of 10 days, if necessary.

LM was caught on October 4, 2011 on Jalan Padma, Legian, Kuta, Bali, carrying 6.9 grams of marijuana in his pocket.

During police questioning in the company of a psychiatrist and a psychologist, he said he had bought the illegal drug from someone in Kuta.

Australian ambassador Greg Moriarty had come to the Bali police headquarters to ascertain the proper handling of the case, to support the boy`s parents and the boy himself.
