Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State-owned electricity company PLN has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) on development and utilization of renewable energy.

The MoU was signed at the BPPT office by PLN President Director Nur Pamudji and Head of the BPPT Marzan A Iskandar here on Friday.

The signing of the MOU is a follow up of their cooperation which has been held since 2009 on the assessment and application of technology, particularly on the utilization of technology in the electricity sector.

Besides, the MoU is expected to provide guidelines for the two institutions in carrying out mutually beneficial cooperation in the development of national electricity and utilization of primary electricity sources as well as renewable energy for the interest of national electricity development.

"This cooperation is expected to boost the growth of research among the research and development institutions with industries," Nur Pamudji said.

He said that PLN was also developing studies with a number of higher institutions such as the Bandung-based Institute of Technology (ITB) and the Surabaya-based Institute of Technology (ITS) on the reverse engineering study aimed at increasing power generators` availability and reliability.

For PLN, the benefit it could have with the development of the reverse engineering is among others to obtain quality materials with competitive price while increasing efficiency.

While BPPT as one of trustworthy research institutions will be able to increase the wider number of its research topics from PLN or other national industries.***5***
