Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Wednesday appreciated Saudi Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulrahman Muhammed Amen Al-Khayyat for his outstanding performance during his five-year assignment in the country.

"I should like to express my gratitude to you for your dedication and contribution to the progress achieved in our bilateral relations," the President said when receiving the Saudi ambassador at the Presidential Office here.

Al-Khayyat who had just concluded his term of office as Saudi ambassador to Indonesia came to the Presidential Office to say his farewells.

"I hope your successor could preserve the existing good relations although we have several times faced a number of issues we have to manage altogether in a wise manner," the President said.

At the 30-minute meeting, the head of state said the question of Indonesian migrant workers employed in Saudi Arabia was one of the important issues that should draw attention from the two countries.

"But I could say that in general, our relations (with Saudi Arabia) are good and continue to grow. I could say the two countries have made a lot of progress in their bilateral relations," he said.

The President said many times Indonesia had difficulties the Saudi government extended assistance and gave moral and material support to Indonesia.

Following the meeting, President Yudhoyono received a delegation of the Senate of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
