Bandung (ANTARA News) - The opposition Indonesia Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) said corruption is an extraordinary crime and therefore extraordinary efforts are needed to wipe it out.

"Therefore, PDIP reiterates that it will never defend any party cadre involved in corruption or bribery," conference committee chairman Puan Maharani said reading the results of the party`s national conference ending here on Wednesday.

The party`s general chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri was present when the results of the conference from December 12 was read out.

PDIP is resolved to become a pioneer in corruption eradication by promoting transparency in the party`s financial management and maximizing the spirit of solidarity in collecting funds to finance the party`s programs through compulsory and voluntary contributions from party members and sympathizers.

The conference has assigned the party`s faction in the House of Representatives (DPR) to fight for a comprehensive and accountable party financing regulation which is in line with the aspirations of the people to avoid party cadres from being involved in corruption, bribery and politics that hurt state finance.

In line with the spirit of anti-corruption that has become a public agenda the party urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to step up its functions and authority in preventing corruption in coordination with other law enforcement agencies and other political parties to revise systems and legislations that could create corruptions.

It also calls on the government not to be discriminative and politicize corruption eradication efforts.

It said corruption eradication must be carried out systematically and structurally by prioritizing big cases that attract public attention such as the Century Bank case, tax fraud cases and the corruption case of Wisma Atlet.

With regard to alleged corruption and bribery cases in some ministries and state institutions PDIP urged the President to take a firm action against the bureaucrats concerned.
