Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - A man working to put up a billboard on top of a bank building here was electrocuted and had to be rushed to hospital for severe burns on Tuesday.

The man, 28-year-old Aan Widjayanto is now under intensive medical care at the Dr Sardjito General Hospital for burns on 8O percent of his skin.

"Before the incident, Aan was placing a ladder to install a billboard on the building`s second story," said his co-worker, Gunawan.

Gunawan said Aan threw a rope on the building`s top to tie the ladder to the building for safety. Unfortunately, Aan did not realize that the rope he had thrown up was wet and had fallen on an electrical cable located in a corner of the building`s top.

The wet rope transmitted high voltage electrical current to Aan`s body which caused him to fall off the ladder into a hanging position with the rope tangled around his body and his clothes burning after coming into contact with the electric current.

Aan was unconscious when a rescue team arrived to help him, Gunawan said.

Aan and Gunawan were workers of CV Karya Mandiri from Sleman who got an order to install a billboard on top of the Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) building on Jalan Pramuka , Yogyakarta.

After the incident, the bank was immediately closed and the police put up a police line around the scene.

Umbulharjo Police Chief Commissioner Yudhi Iqbal said the police would conduct an investigation into the incident.

"Based on the available data, we see this happening as a workplace accident without any indication of sabotage," he said.
