Vitria has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment by Singapore`s Supreme Court on March 7, with the threat of death and 20 years sentence for killing her 81-year-old female employer in 2009.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Under-aged Indonesian Migrant Worker Vitria Depsi Wahyuni (19) has been freed from the death sentence by Singapore`s Supreme Court.

"Thanks to the efforts of the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore and professional attorney Muzammil Mohammad, Vitria D Wahyuni has only been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment," said Director of Information and Media of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs PLE Priatna, in a press release on Thursday.

According to the report from the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore, Vitria has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment by Singapore`s Supreme Court on March 7, with the threat of death and 20 years sentence for killing her 81-year-old female employer in 2009.

Vitria, a migrant worker from Jember, East Java, has been in custody since November 26, 2009 when she was just 17 years old. However, when the incident took place her passport stated that she was 23 years old.

Based on Article 302 Chapter 224 of the Singapore Criminal Penal Code she could be threatened with a death sentence, but the Singapore Criminal Procedure Act regulates that a defendant under the age of 18 cannot receive a death sentence.

"After taking into consideration the period of custody since the first trial on November 28, 2009, Vitria will be released in 2016 as she has completed over half the sentence," said Priatna.

Vitria was sent to Singapore with false documents. Her name and date of birth on her travel documents differed from those on four authentic papers; her ID card, birth certificate, family card, and parental permission letter.(*)
