Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian and Malaysian Attorneys General Basrief Arief and Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on handling legal issues here on Monday.

Basrief Arief and Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail signed the MoU in the presence of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Joko Suyanto and Law and Human Rights Minister Amir Syamsuddin.

After the signing, Basrief said the MoU was inseparable from the two countries legal issues, which had experienced remarkable developments.

"Therefore we need the memorandum of understanding between the two countries," Basrief said.

He noted that the MoU would deal with legal issues between the two countries such as problematic Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia, illegal fishing, illegal logging, terrorism, and drugs.

"They will become our topic of discussion," Basries said, adding that the MoU had been planned since October 2011.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Attorney General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail welcomed the signing of the MoU.

Tan Sri said he would inform the government of Indonesia about its nationals who were facing the death penalty in Malaysia and provide them with representation by lawyers.
