Palembang (ANTARA News) - The United Development Party (PPP) has committed itself to recruit 12 million cadres to empower villages, its chairman, Suryadharma Ali, said here on Saturday.

He made the remarks at a regional working meeting and women cadre training of PPP for South Sumatra. The training was conducted under the theme: "Making a Success of The Program of 12 Million Cadres to Develop a Prosperous and Self-Reliant Indonesia."

He said the decision to recruit 12 million cadres was made during the latest PPP congress and has now been made public.

"I am confident that the plan to recruit 12 million cadres will be achieved," Suryadharma Ali remarked.

Further, the PPP chairman said that the working meeting would evaluate the number of voters in South Sumatra, which was only 157,604, or 5.6 percent of the total voters of 5,192,693.(*)
